Writing Lessons & Advice: English Class Appreciation

Back in the early years of Facebook, the platform offered a notes feature. As one could imagine, the feature was a text processor that allowed space for expression beyond the status update and comment sections. I'm sure you could also easily imagine me spending a lot of time with this element.
Unfortunately, the feature was discontinued in 2020, but the platform is kind enough to "remind" me of my old publishings from time to time with its memories algorithm. It recently dredged up a bit I wrote for my high school yearbook during senior year. I can not remember if it made it into the final publication, but the retrospect does offer some good perspective on English class!
"There are twenty-six letter in the English alphabet, and since the beginning of time, man has arranged the twenty-six simple initials into countless forms of complex expression. In creating such expression, the greatest pieces of literature were born. From Beowulf to The Bedford Reader, man's literature has been preserved and published for the sake of our education and enjoyment. Love it or loathe it, English classes instill in us a more refined sense of our culture and language as we probe through pages of prose and poetry and create our own forms of expression that could someday be great!"
Hope this helps you think differently about humanities in education!
