Writing Lessons & Advice: Four Big Gift Ideas for Writers
Is there a writer in your life? What kind of gifts would be liked by one gifted with an affinity for words? Here are recommendations from me and other writers:
Writing-focused material or courses
Tools or opportunities that nurture writing potential are one of the most practical things to give the writer in your life. Buy them a subscription to writing courses, magazines, or a retreat. Gift them books, services, or software to help them hone their craft or navigate the world of publishing. The “further reading” selections have several good suggestions, and a few can be found in the reading lesson as well.
Writing games
Writer’s Block and proofreading aren’t terribly fun for some writers. Any of these games or activities should bring some levity to the dredges of the creative process!
Writing or literary themed merchandise
Sports fans have team or athletic gear. Car lovers have tools and accessories. Music lovers have recordings and concert swag. Writers have many of the same things to show passion for their interest. Writing and reading merch can be found through any of these specialty shops linked below or through the “further reading” links:
Banned Books products from the ALA (Check out this lesson if you haven’t already!)
If you want to shop in-store somewhere, Books-A-Million, Barnes and Noble, or other bookstores could be good places to start. If nothing else, you can't go wrong with gift cards to said retailers either.
Box sets
These are collections that combine helpful material, activities, and/or goodies into one fabulous set!
In short, the best gifts for the writer in your life are ones that enhance and embrace their craft. Expressions of support, appreciation, and investment can go a long way with them! Hopefully you have some idea about what to give the writer in your life for Christmas/birthday/surprise/whatever occasion that may entail a gift!
If you're a writer, what's on your wishlist? Did you like these suggestions or have your own? If you're shopping for a writer, what are you getting them? Is there a topic you want me to cover in the future? Let me know by reaching out to me in the we chat feature or socials!
